Sometimes the car will - when first accelerating go into limp mode. It hangs in 2nd gear and will not shift any higher. You can usually tell when it's going to happen. The car will buck a bit or act a little sluggish. The quick fix is to shut it off and restart it. Then it's good to go until the next time it happens.
What causes this? This had been going on for 7 months or so.

The trans is an electronic overdrive trans. If there is any problems with the gear ratios or any slipping it goes into a limp in mode to get you to a shop where the computer can be scanned to see what the problem is. They had problems with the torque converter in 94. You can read how it works here. It may just need fluid or a service also. It was a great unit.
