Transmission problem
1991 Dodge Dynasty Automatic

I fiddled around trying to get this cable rod re-attached to the shift lever and the angle isn't there. I suspect that this piece was designed as a straight section and when it got bent it came loose from the shifter. My plan is to unbend the rod and re-attach it. I would like some input before bending things, though!

Does anyone have a diagram, description or image of what the rod is supposed to look like? Any suggestions for a better plan or confirmation that I have the right idea? Just about anything would be helpful, thank you!

Let me look. I see now. They all looked exactly like that. Something is wrong other then the cable. It may be for another car. They are a son of a gun to get in. Spray it up good with silicone spray, not oil. Get a pair of bigger water pump pliers and turn it towards thr hole with the grommet in. Then get your pliers on and squueze real hard and "pop" it goes in. It is supposed to be like that. You may have the wrong one or need to twist it more. Use one tool to twist and hold it in place, and then grab and squeeze. OK I used to do em quite a bit and it was not easy. If you bend it, no good. Lose the temper if not done correctly with enough heat, or reheated properly to re-temper it. Besides it is a big safety item. I never saw one without that bend. OK I dont want to say die nas

Die peacefully. Let me know if you need help. I only did about 48 of them.
