I have a dodge durango with 140K miles. The oil pressure is intermitant. When I start it, oil pressure comes up then as it runs, it will fall to zero and then come back. Some time it will stay at zero for up to 5 minutes. It this a possible pump failing or a sensor?

Kinda iffy but im leanign towards a bad sensor. Short in the wiring or a bad guage.

Disconnect the sensor and remove it form the engine and perform a oil pressure test on it to verify. Shoudl be around 10 psi per 1000 engine rpm.

Most of the time the oild sending unit will go bad b4 the oild pump, 9 out of 10 times its the oil sending unit which is the pressure sensor, my durango typically holds 40 psi at idle and 60 at traveling speed
