2002 Dodge Dakota EVAP emissions

I have a 2002 dodge dakota and check engine light is on. Code reads evap emissions leak. Checked the hoses and gas cap and they're fine. Will it hurt the truck if I were to drive it say 800 miles before it's fixed? Starting vacation tomorrow and supposed to drive it. Thanks.

It shouldn't hurt anything. What has happened is there is a leak in the fuel system (vapor). When you try to fix it, I recommend having the system fogged. The fog will leak out where there is a leak. Otherwise, you will go crazy trying to find the leak. Keep in mind, a bad gas cap could even set this code.

I'm having the same problem. I see you wrote this back in 2009. It is now 2012. Do you remember how it got resolved or fixed? Help me out please. Was it the fuel pump? Can you remember?
