There is some ticking for the first 3-5 minutes of running in the morning and after it has been sitting for more than 2-3 hours. It has been this way ever sinse I bought the truck at 65000 miles. The mechanic said it was probably worn lifters. I am not sure what that means but I was wondering what anyone else might think. And how much this would normally cost to get fixed.

The mechanic could be right all along with a leakdown problem with the lifters-When you change lifters -you also should change the camshaft

How much do you think I should expect to pay for such a repair on a 4.7 liter v8 including the camshaft? How experienced should I be to tackle this on my own?
