2000 Dodge Dakota Head gasket replacement.

Is this hard to do on a 2000 v6 Dakota? Do the head bolts have to be replaced?

Hi:
It's no harder than other engines. It is, however, unusual to see a bad head gasket on a 3.9. Are you sure it's the head gasket?

Also, if you replace the gaskets, I strongly recommend replacing the head bolts and following the recommended torque sequence and steps.

It is overheating and blowing alot of white smoke. What else could it be?

Hi:
It sounds like a headgasket or intake. Regardless, to get to the heads, you'll need to remove the intake. If you run into trouble, let me know. Also, make sure to have the heads checked for warpage.

Let me know how it goes and make sure to replace the thermostat.
