Oh Buddy here we go! I was driving down the highway in cruise control all of the sudden cruise shut off speedometer n odometer stopped working also truck dies when I stop. This all happened at the same time, and None have worked since and truck still dies. This is my problem! FYI because it might help I do have shorts! Put my truck in the shop and found one. One short was in my radio amp. It was draining my battery over night. They pulled the fuse to the amp, for now. That short didn't effect the speedometer. I have another short! Ok. If I push my dome light or turn the dimmer switch to on to turn it on it only goes on when I have the brake pedal pushed in. I can also turn off my dinger off by pushing the brake as well. The radio (not the amp, no music) comes on with the lights off and brake pushed in. Please HELP my truck has been in two shops for the battery draining short, w/that fixed I just need to know fast i'm going. Also ne ideas bout the other shorts would be greatly appreciated!

Wow! It sounds like you need a priest not a mechanic. (LOL)

This is a tough one because they are only tied together through one item, the body control module (BCM). Has that been checked? Also, have all body grounds been checked? Finally, has the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) been checked? That could cause the speedo / cruise problem.

Let me know and I'll try my best to help.

Joe

No the vss hasn't been checked. I wasn't sure if the 99 still had a speedometer cable, or if it was some sort of sensor, which I believe you juwt answ Where is the vss located and how do I get it checked? Same question for the bcm. BTW thanks for the response!
