Steering problem
1998 Dodge Dakota V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

the power steering gear, this is bolted to the frame, leaks fluid. I can replace it or I can replace all of the seals. Replacemant cost is $195.00 plus a $225.00 core charge, per the locale NAPA store. The seal kit is $32.00 plus I would probably need to buy a tool or two. Is replaceing the seals straight forward enough that it can be done easily or does it involve tools that would end up costing more than the total replacement?

Hi:
Replacing the seals is straight forward. However, I strongly recomend you purchase a repair manual for your vehicle to follow. It will provide step by step instructions with pictures.

In fact, go to a parts store check out the manual and decide if it's something you feel comfortable with.

Let me know if this helps or if you need additional information.
