1998 Dodge Dakota, 135000 miles, V6 engine.

About two years ago, the ABS and CHECK ENGINE lights came on. The mechanic replaced the wheel and O2 sensors which fixed the problem. About a year ago, the ABS and BRAKE lights came on and the brake pedal shudders as if the ABS is kicking in.

We had a complete brake job done. The rear shoes were down to the metal and the mechanic said that this could cuase havoc with the sensors. But the problem still persisted.

He then thought that it was the ABS computer. A new computer is very pricey, so he install a used one from a wrecked dakota. This seems to work for while, but after driving down the road for about 10 miles, the lights come back on and after another 10 miles or so, the brake pedal starts to shudder again as if the ABS is kicking in.

Any ideas?

Thanks, you guys are super. Donation comming. Far less costly than what I've done so far.

Scott, the ABS is way to complicated to just guess. You need to have the PCM scanned to get the codes (cause of the light). Get back to us with that info and we can go from there. Sounds like one of the wheels thinks it is locking up from what you describe, but get it scanned first

If the light has been on, it should have stored at least one code
