Brakes problem
1997 Dodge Dakota 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

When I was putting the calipers back on I stripped the threads off the caliper bolts and the plate both. I I tapped the hole and placed a heli coil in there but the bolt appears to be to big for the heli coil. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this situation.

I am a first time brake changer and so far not so good.

Thanks
Jason

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the donation.

I would suggest getting the defective items replaced. If not you have to have them machined and aligned.

DIY rethreading with inserts is bad for the slider bolts because it would not be properly aligned and would cause the caliper to be tight when sliding in or out. This would cause the caliper to stick and premature pads wear. In the long run it would also affect the braking and cause the rotors to go bad due to overheating.
