Engine Mechanical problem
1991 Dodge Dakota V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 55k miles

only getting a clicking sound from starter when attempting to start the engine. One click each time the ignition switch is turned. Charging the battery doesnt help. Repeated trying sometimes results in the starter engaging and the engine starts quickly. Does this mean I have to replace the starter and if so what is the procedure?

The clicking is the solenoid attempting to engage starter motor. The repeated attempts to start indicate armeture and brush problems all due to lots of times starting the car. So the best thing is to replace starter also if cables are OEM they should be replaced.
