I have a 1991 dodge dakota 4x4 with 124,500 miles on it. My instrument cluster isn't working right. The gas gauge, temp. Gauge, battery gauge, and oil gauge work, but my odometer and tripometer don't. Plus, my speedometer is only accurate above 55 mph. Any slower and the needle bounces. What do you think is wrong?

First, make sure the cable from the speedo to the trans is tight and hasn't come loose. Next, disconnect it from the rear of the speedo to make sure is isn't broken inside the outter shell. If it's broken inside, you will be able to spin it with your fingers. If everything is good with the cable, I hate to say it but the speedo most likely needs replaced.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
