My 2006 Charger won't shift out of park

I drove my car last night, parked it in the garage, and this morning when I went to leave, I could not get the car out of park. The steering wheel wasn't locked, my foot was on the brake, and no matter what I did, I could not get it out of park. What is the problem?

The shift interlock mechanism is broken.
You would normally have to have the shifter replaced, but if you are handy with a socket set and a drill you can repair it yourself.
It took me about an hour the first time I did it. Now it takes me 35mins, from start to finish, to repair it.
