I have a 1998 Grand caravan 6cyl automatic and last week it blew the guages fuse, which caused the van to run in limp mode. I replace the fise and it worked fine for a couple days yesterday it blew 2 times. Does anyone have a clue what could be causing this to happen? Thanks Steve

Hi there steve,

Thank you for your donation.

Think about what you may of been doing when the fuse blew, Lights on/off indicators on/off there may be a short in a dash globe or in the circuit board so look for clues when it blows, just try it in the drive way first. And report back any suspicions that might help us track it down further.

I have noticed anything. I did have the automatic lights on and have since turned it to the manual postition. The headlight switch seems to be a little falkey ( the lights flicker when turning them on). I have notice3d the fog lights wont come on but that could just be the lights themselves. The cluster was replaced by the previous owner due to the same problem (told this after I bought).

Hi there,

It is sounding like a problem with the instrument cluster. Considering it was changed once before for the same problem. You still should have the other electrical issues attended to as there could be a feed back problem as well.

I just had the guage problem again last night. I have a code of PO 1618 from autozone. I asked the dealer what this was and he said it was invalid, I went back to autozone and they checked it again and found the same code. I also have a code for speed sensor and egr. Last night when the fuse blew it blew upon start up whick is the only time I have noticed it blowing. It was working fine when I shut the car off and when I started it blew. This time I noticed something real wierd usually all the guages work and the PRNDL are all squared like I am in all the gears. Last night none of the guages worked and tho od and gear selector where gone. It was raining so I drove nice and slow home and just before I pulled in the driveway the guages started working again and the od and gear selectors came back. The gear selector still had the letters boxed and the transmission still wouldnt shift. I put a new fuse in and it blew right away. I tried this 3 times and gave up. I then tried to put a new fuse in this morning so my wife could drive it to work and it worked fine. Could my speed sensor be causing this? The reason I ask is that the check engine light went off when the fuse blew. I am going to get the sensor fixed as soon as I can afford it, but everyone wants 150.00 to do it. I would do it myself but me shoulder is messed up and I just cant. I appericate all the answers and hope you all have happy holidays. Steve
