Engine Cooling problem
2003 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My van overheats when sitting still, does not run hot while traveling. The check engine light came on then the problem started. I checked the obvious, belt, thermostat, fluids, etc. I noticed the electric fans are not turning on. I am assuming a sensor went out that controls the fans. I took the vehicle to AutoZone to have a diagnostic (computer check) for the check engine light. Even though the check engine light is on, the diagnostic read "pass" with no codes registering. Am I correct to assume that a sensor controls the 2 fans? If so, if the computer is not giving a code, how do I know which sensor to replace? Or is there something else that controls the fans functions?

No, you shouldn't be assuming that at all. The PCM controls the fans using the temp input it uses for everything else.

You could have a bad fan motor, relay problem, wiring problem or fuse issue.
The first thing to do would be to jump power and ground to the motor to see if it is any good.
