2001 Dodge Caravan Two Wheel Drive Automatic 123000 miles
We have had no symptoms of a possible transmission problem with our Dodge Caravan. My wife drove it to work with no problems. When she got in the car to come home the vehicle had no reverse or forward drive.
I checked the transmission fluid level and it was normal and the fluid had a reddish color, like new. The malfunction indicator light was on and stayed on, but did not flash. We towed it to a Dodge dealer and after pulling the oil pan, only, they said the transmission was burned up and had to be replaced. The cost would be $3,300 dollars. I am somewhat skeptical.
My question is, could there be other causes for this we should check before replacing the transmission?
Any information you could provide would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Don
