I have a 99 dodge caravan. The problem started a few months ago. When I started the car, none of my gauges worked and there was a box around all of my gears (PRND3L). Then when driving while this was going on, my transmission would not shift. I just reset by disconnecting the battery for a while. All was well for 2 months. Now it is doing it again. I've replaced the i/o speed sensors and the PRDN3L/range sensor and the problem still persists. Do I need to take the car to the dealership and have the pcm reprogrammed or is it something else?

Sorry I dropped my new keyboard and lost my answer. Yes, check the level and condition of the transmission fluid while hot before bringing your caravan in for dealer service so you can be better informed after your chosen Chrysler dealer calls and informs you if a re-programming is all thats is needed for all or one of the 3 computers involved. Ok

Well, I took the car to get the codes cleared and reprogrammed. It didn't fix it. The previous codes no longer show up. Now it is showing either a short or issue with the bus line and a communication error between the pcm and the tcm. So far I have done my best to keep the repairs within my budget. Do you have any suggestions?

The chrysler dealer told you that the code is no communication between the pcm and the tcm. The van is still driving in 2nd gear, and the dealer gave you an estimate? TCM controls whole trans and dash indicators. At least you know its gonna be expensive. Have both fuse boxes checked, engine compartment has 20 or so and inside also in fuse panel too. BOTH PLACES That is a bad computer code sorry, matbe you can shop, let them do it when you get the money so you'll have a decent warranty. Ok, kharmoz08 Joe
