I think my transmission is dead but hoping that it's something else. Before the failure when I accelarated from a stop the transmission would clunk - like something was loose. Clunk every couple seconds until I slow down the accelaration. If fact I could force it to do the clunk or not by accelarating slow or fast.

The failure happen on a clunk - no forward gears work but reverse works fine. When I put it in first gear it sounds and feels like it's going to start but is is just slipping.

Any hope that it is something other than the tranny?

Hi:
When you put the car in drive, give it some gas and tell me if the speedometer registers.

It sounds to me like there is an internal transmission problem. Based on our conversation, you will most likely need to see a mechanic.

If you have any other questions, let me know.
