1996 Dodge Caravan Front Wheel Drive Automatic

my friend has a dodge grand caravan with a 3.3l engine she starts it up and it runs fine for a few minutes. Then when it gets warmed up all at once the oil light comes on and the lifters tap. Im wondering which problem could most likely be? Ive deducted it down to the oil pump not holding prime like it should, the pickup tube is plugged or could be the oil sending unit. I was just wondering what in fact it may be.

Hi:
If the engine starts making noise when the light comes on, it's not the sending unit. My guess would be the oil pump. Yes, it could be plugged, but that can be checked when the pump is removed.

Let me know what you find.
