1990 Dodge Caravan Fuel gauge

Electrical problem
1990 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Automatic 2i3.00 miles

When the vehicle is shut off the fuel gauge reads quarter full. When I turn the ignition on the needle goes left to empty and disappears from sight. I believe the gauge is good. I have checked the wire to ground, nothing happens. I believe it must be the sender unit. Is this difficult to replace can I partly lower tank to get it out or must the tank be lowered completely.

It is easier to do the work with the tank completely out of the vehicle, but not necessary. Just make sure you have enough room to move the lock ring and to take the pump assembly out.

Having almost empty tank does help a lot. Keep that in mind.
