1990 Dodge Caravan engine light

I am having an issue. My check engine light comes on sometimes and van starts to kinda chug along.I can turn it off and when I restart it the light is off. Also when I go in reverse and put in drive it takes a few seconds and then catches gear and sometimes light comes on then. Please help

Hi:
If the light has been on, there is a code set in the computer. Start by taking the van to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. Once we determine the codes, then we will have an idea of what part is causing problems. Note: most parts stores will scan for free, so there is no money out of pocket.
