Do I need different lug nuts for aftermarket wheels?

I swapped out a set rims but did not take into consideration the seat, since most I see are the cone type seat.

The OEM nuts were a ball type nut while the aftermarkets were likely conical. I torqued everything and took the car out before I left.

Should I just use a aftermarket lug nut set?

Yes, you need to use lug nuts that are meant for the wheel style that you have. They need to fit the wheel properly so that they are tightened properly. Here is a guide that will help with tightening a wheel that will help:

What I would suggest is contacting the wheel manufacturer and getting them to send you a set of lug nuts that fit the wheels and match your stud pattern.
