Why would the battery drain if it sits for more than two days? I had a new battery installed 12/2018.

Hello,

This sounds like you have a parasitic draw situation going on. Parasitic draw is when your vehicle's electrical system has a circuit that accidentally gets left on, or the wiring has a short to power that is like leaving something on, which in turn drains your battery. These problems can be, and are notorious to get figured out, but we have a list of culprits to make your job in finding it a lot easier. I have included a link down below for you to go to:

Thanks for your expert response. I assumed there is a drain somewhere even though my dealership is adamant that it drains because I don't drive enough. I am insured with MetroMile and have a device plugged into the outlet under the dash to clock the mileage.
Do you think this could be the cause of the drainage since the car was fine before I installed this device? What action do you suggest I take?

Hello again,

When you shut the vehicle off does the MetroMile turn off as well or does it stay on? If it stays on then yes, there is a really good chance that this is your parasitic draw. One way to check would simply be to unplug it and see if the parasitic draw continues. If it stops then great, that is it. If not, try checking the components mentioned in the guide from earlier. Either way, get back to us with what you are able to ascertain.

Thanks,
Alex

Spoke with MetroMile and yes it stays on even when the car is off. To solve this problem they are sending me a cigarette lighter adapter which shuts off when the car is off. They assured me this will solve the problem. Thanks so much for your help. Boo to my dealer's service dept for not even suggesting a parasite. You are the best!
