When I put my key in to turn on the car the check engine light, oil light, and battery light turn on. This happens when I turn the key part way to turn the car on but NOT when I start the engine. When I turn the key completely and the engine turns on all of those lights I mentioned turn off. They DO NOT turn back on while I'm driving.
Is it just showing me that those lights work or is it telling me that I need to get service?

YOU ARE CORRECT!

THIS VERIFIES THAT THE LIGHTS/ SYSTEMS ARE WORKING

EXAMPLE: YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT "S" ON (OR NOT), BUT NOT SHOWING ON THE DASH. YOU CAN CUT MR. KEY ON TO SEE IF THE LIGHT ILLUMINATES. IF IT IS NOT SHOWING UP ON THIS "PRE-FLIGHT CHECKLIST, YOU REALLY WON'T KNOW IF IT IS REALLY ON OR OFF WHILE IN FLIGHT, TILL YOU GET IT REPAIRED. THIS SORTA SET-UP HAS BEEN IN CARS FOR A LONG TIME.
