Hello, every time I put into gear drive or reverse it cuts of.F I got new air idle control valve same thing. So I dropped a pan of the transmission to see if there was any metal flaking everything was good. So I refilled transmission fluid and put new pan gasket. I am stuck do not know what else to do. Please somebody help me. Thank you. Some people say could be a locked up torque converter not sure though.

Good morning.

Yes, a locked torque converter is a common issue and could be the problem.

Can you two foot the truck and get it to move or will it not allow you even move the truck?

No will not move at all. What are the next steps I should possibly be taking? Thank you for the help. Oh, one more thing. Can I try to scan it even though there is not a check engine light on to see if a code comes up?

Yes, you can scan it for codes but without a light, you would need a scan tool that will read history codes.
Also, if there is no light or codes, it is a mechanical failure which means there would be no codes.

As far as testing, you would need a set of pressure gauges to attach to the transmission and check main line pressures and application pressures.

At this point, I would consider replacing the transmission. If the converter locked up, it may have spread metal throughout the transmission and contaminated the valve body and clutches.

I would hate to see you just replace the converter and then find you have continuing issues.

No, there is a solenoid. If it was bad, it would code.
