Crankshaft sensor installation issue?

I received my new crankshaft sensor today and compared it to my old one. They are all the same size, but my problem is that the new one doesn't seem to be mounted as far down on the bracket as the original, making it longer by bout 1/4". Is it defective or do I compensate by adding washers?
