Crankshaft seal replacement

Had the front crankshaft seal replaced by a mechanic. Because I was away when the job was done, the mechanic dropped the car off at my garage. When I first started the car, it seemed to run rough and had a different sound. I immediately went back to the shop and the mechanic agreed that it shouldn't be driven. Several days later the mechanic told me that the car was all set, I arrived at the shop, started the car and it was still running rough. I again left the vehicle at the shop and several days later he showed me a damaged crankshaft. Could a crankshaft go bad as a result of a bad seal replacement? Car ran great prior to the seal replacement.

Good morning,

The simple answer is no.

What did he say is the reason for running rough? What did he mean damaged crankshaft?

It does not make sense.

He showed me a photo of the crankshaft scored/scraped and now there is metal particles in the oil pan.

There is only one picture.

That bearing is junk and most likely the crank is damaged.

I would love to know why this happened.

Is that the only bearing that is damaged?

The car ran great prior to this failure. Now the mechanic is thinking that the oil pump was the factor?

No, not at all. You are at the point of removing the engine for a complete overhaul.

I am worried something went bad during the seal replacement that caused bearing damage.

It is a simple job but I am wondering if something went wrong.

Okay, it said 1961 on the post information. That is 1963-1967 body.

You need another opinion on this. Is the car at the shop or at your house?
