Hello, I have a 2015 Renault / Dacia Duster petrol engine VIN UU1HSDC5E52625544.
The engine cranks but no start. The fuel pump is new but does not run when ignition is turned on. Fuel pump Fuse and relay are fine and when I bridge the relay the pump starts, same when I power up the coil of the relay. Problem is I don't have an output (ground) from the ECU to turn on the relay. It probably doesn't turn on other stuff as even if I manually energise the fuel pump, the engine still does not start.
I cleared codes from all modules but for some reason I can't clear the codes from the engine module, it's called "injection", all codes from it are inactive though.
The only code still active I have is from the instrument panel, it's DF024: CAN COMMUNICATION. SIGNAL MISSING. I haven't found any info on this code.
Oh, I forgot to mention I had tons of codes before on the "injection" module, basically most sensors were showing out of range, shorted to 12V or over voltage. I found a connector with water in it and after cleaning it all faults were gone. What would you check next please? I'm a bit stuck and live in a very remote place called Fatu Hiva in French Polynesia, needless to say there is no dealer anywhere near here nor mechanics other than me. I love your videos by the way! Cheers, Harvey

Hi Harvey,

Thanks for watching the videos we like them too :) Yep, you do live out there, looks amazing!

DF024 - CAN communication signal missing (instrument cluster)

I would check the corrosion at the back of the instrument cluster, and then try to start the car without the cluster connected. The ECU should use default values for the cluster and allow the engine to start. Let me know what you find. Ken

That's a great idea, thanks a lot! Funny thing is I can communicate with the instrument cluster using the scan tool without any issues and even changing parameters. Also the instrument cluster displays every value as expected, like fuel level, warning lights etc. I sure will try what you suggested and report back when I get back to the vehicle, probably next week.

Hi, so I tried disconnecting the instrument panel which didn't change anything on the start issue, still no fuel pump being activated and more codes on other modules. One thing that is strange is I cannot clear inactive codes from the ECU (Injection), I'm not sure if it's a fault from my diagnostic tool or the ECU has an issue. The other thing I notices is the accelerometer pedal info only raise by a few % when fully depressed. I doubt this is of any help for you remotely but if you have any ideas i'm all ears as I don't know what my next move could be. I contacted the manufacturer of my diagnostic tool (Xtool D8S) to ask if they think wether the clearing of old DTC's could be a software issue or a problem with the ECU.

"the accelerometer pedal info only raise by a few % when fully depressed" is the clue, this should move more actively, I would watch the throttle body when depressing the pedal to see if it moves at all. If the throttle body is bad the engine will not start.
