Hi guys, I have a Corsa C, been running fine up until last Thursday, EML came on and it now terribly misfires and cuts out, I took it to garage and the did compression test and it's fine and replaced coil pack and spark plugs, but still the same, they reckon it has damp somewhere like ECU or something and told me they can't fix it, bearing in mind there is a VW garage and couldn't be bothered to go any further. Please help!

Hi,

This vehicle isn't offered in the US, but I will try my best to help.

When the engine stalls, does it start right back up for you? Do these issues happen regardless of the engine temperature?

Take a look through this link and let me know if you see anything that mirrors what you are experiencing:

Let me know.

Take care,

Okay, the last garage it was at said they had fitted a new coil pack and new spark plugs and still misfiring, so did a compression test and mechanically fine. So, they suggested it was damp in the ECU, and giving false readings of misfire, it won't even run properly is misfire so badly, worse than it did when I took it to garage. Could it just be a mass airflow sensor or do you think it could be more?

Hi,

It could be a MAF, but I don't feel that would cause a constant misfire to one or two cylinders. Have you checked the fuel injectors for power and a ground? I wish I had the wiring schematic for you because I could tell you exactly what to check.

Do me a favor. I don't have the schematic, but most vehicles function the same. Inspect each of the fuel injector connectors. There should be two wires going to each one. Of the two wires, one at each injector will be the same color throughout all injectors, and one will be a different color. Check that for me.

If you do find each one having one wire that is the same at each injector, that is likely the power supply. To confirm this, turn the key to the run position (engine off) and using a test lamp, see if there is power at each injector.

If there is power, then we need to check for a ground path to the PCM. You will need a helper for this.

Take the test light alligator clip and connect it to the battery's positive side. Probe the wire that is a different color at each connector and have the helper crank the engine. If you are getting a ground from the PCM, the light will flash on and off.

Please understand, this is how I am able to check almost all vehicles. However, although it is unlikely, this one could be different.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Hi Joe, thanks for getting back to me, I'm not a mechanic unfortunately but it is going into another garage this Wednesday. It's had a new coil pack and spark plugs already and I took off the MAF sensor and cleaned the points. Also, disconnected battery for approximately 10 minutes, it is now running a little better but the EML light still coming on so I've been told it's an ECU issue or another sensor of some sort, hopefully garage will shed some light on it next week, also a compression test has been done on engine and it's all fine so not mechanical unless it has a stretched timing chain, which with 26000 on the clock I very much doubt it could be that.

Hi,

Thank you for the update. As far as a stretched timing belt is concerned, it would affect engine compression, so I agree with you. I don't feel it is a belt issue.

On the other hand, I wouldn't think the ECU would have failed at this mileage as well, to me, it would more likely be a sensor or wiring issue, but I'm not familiar with the vehicle.

If you can, could you let me know what is found? I'm interested in knowing.

Take care of yourself,

Joe

Of course, Joe no problem and it's a chain not a belt but I assume with that milage it still shouldn't have gone.
