Possible cooling fan issue

I was in a Starbucks drive-through when my friend noticed there was smoke coming from under my hood. We pulled off into a parking spot and looked under the hood and there was fluid splattered everywhere dot on the ground it looked like I had leaked out all of my coolant and the cooling reservoir on top was empty. I put water in it to get me home and checked it when I was home and the water was still in there. My air conditioner is also having issues staying cold.
Nissan is saying that the leak is from a cooling fan which can be replaced under warranty. Can anybody confirm that a coolant leak could be caused by a fan because I cannot find it anywhere. Also, he said my serpentine belt is cracking and that is why the AC is having issues. But I feel like they are making this up since my repair was covered under warranty and they want to make their money.

If your cooling fan stopped working, your car would overheat sitting and idling like that. Then it is possible that it started boiling out of the overflow tank, appearing to look like a leak. Since it is under warranty, I would let them do whatever they think they need to. I would make sure they changed the thermostat too. Either way, just be sure and watch that temperature gauge for a few weeks.

Thanks. I definitely had them replace the fan since it was covered under warranty. I had them show me the serpentine belt when I went to get the rental and it was barely cracked. When I say barely, I mean they thought I was dumb and wanted to make their money back. Thanks for your help!

I gotcha. Barely cracked is cracked though. When it is barely cracked, it is time to replace it. It would be squealing within a couple of weeks. Also, the dealership did not lose any money doing that warranty replacement. Nissan will pay them well for the job.
