I am replacing the coolant temperature sensor. The electrical plug in was also bad so I bought a new one. The existing wires coming into that plug were both yellow. I have to cut this to connect the new plug. I am not sure which wire goes on which side of the sensor. I have a 50/50 chance on getting this right. What if I don’t?

Hello,

The two wires leading to the ECT sensor are actually yellow and tan, see diagram below.
The sensor is a simple NTC resistor so the wiring can be attached either way.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Boris

Thanks. What is the best method for splicing the wires? They are kind of hard to get to. Also do you know what the connection is under the sensor? It's about 4” long and light blue. And is just lying there loose. It has some king of ring, clip or whatever it’s called.

Hello,

I prefer using insulated crimp joints, see picture below. You insert each side wire into the joint, crimp it with a suitable tool and then apply heat to reduce the heat shrink to provide a waterproof joint.

A good video

Could you please provide us with good, clear picture of the connection in question?

Cheers, Boris
