Ordered and received from Mazda-Parts: GY01-18-510 Heat Gauge Unit or Sending Unit.
ZZM2-18-707 Desc. Sensor Water Temp
I removed what I think is the coolant or water temperature sensor, but the one I removed has a cone and the new one is barrel shaped with a thin protruding ring at the bottom, ZZM2-18-707. Called the Mazda-Parts Dept they said according to manual and parts catalogue part number is correct for my vehicle and may just be a version variation of the part?
The wires on what I think is Coolant Sensor has a one green+red and one white+red wire on a grey connector, its port is the closest to the engine on Thermostat Housing.
Right in front of is port #2 its connector wires are one black+white and one red+white, orange cap. I haven't removed the senor or unit in that port yet. So, I need to confirm if my new parts are the correct replacements and which of the ports is for coolant sensor and which is for temperature unit? The guy at the parts place said the port closest to the engine is the heat sender unit to PCM and the one closest to front or fan is the coolant temperature sensor but that's not what it looks like on my end, unless the connector wires are what determines which is which? In which case the cone shaped unit was the heat sender, but it was submerged in coolant? So, I'm confused and stopped at removing what I thought was the coolant temperature sensor.
(FYI I paid for a bogus online access to Repair Surge). Hope this 00Mazda B2500 2.5L specific helps others here. Thank you

Hi,

The part numbers you supplied are for this vehicle. Also, I can help with the positioning of the sensor.

If you look below, the picture provided the location and directions for the removal and replacement of the coolant temperature sensor for the gauge. I believe that is the one you are looking for. If you need the one for the computer, it's the opposite one.

Also, if you look at pic 2, that is what the sensor should look like for the computer.

So, OEM part number GY0118510 is for the gauge, and OEM part number ZZM218707 is for the computer. The difference you are seeing is likely the result of a design change or a different manufacturer, but it should work just fine.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
