The coolant light came on and the a few miles more check engine light came on. Car drives fine. Took to dealership got coolant flushed and oil change. Lights still on. Car drives fine. Dealership says due to pandemic they are 3 weeks behind to do diagnostic. They say could be just the sensor gone bad. What could be the problem?

Hi,

It could very well be a sensor. Here is what I suggest: Since the check engine light is on, chances are there are diagnostic trouble codes stored in the computer. I would have the computer scanned to determine the issue. Here is a video showing how it's done:

Now, I realize most people don't own scanners, but most parts stores will do it free of charge. If you have it done, let me know what code is found and I'll walk you through checking things and replacing anything that needs to be replaced. You'll save a lot. LOL

Let me know what you find. Also, feel free to let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Hello,

Are you talking about the coolant temperature sensor or the coolant level sensor?

If you have a faulty coolant temperature sensor it can illuminate the light saying the engine is too hot.
If you have a faulty coolant level sensor, then it will say the coolant is low.

Since the vehicle runs as usual and you do not have any issues with it. Then it is likely the sensor that is bad.

As for the engine light you will have to scan it get the codes. If you do not have a scanner you can take it to your local auto parts store and they will scan it for you. The code can help diagnose the issue that you might have. If you find out the codes, just let me know what they are.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.

It was the CHT because I got a code 1299. I did get one, however I can’t locate where it goes. Do you know where it goes on a 2014 mustang got?

Hi,

I assume this is a 5.0L. If it has the 5.8, let me know.

The CHT is located in the rear of the right-hand cylinder head. I attached a pic below which shows its location.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
