What can leak under the intake of these v8 engines? It just developed a leak. Once it gets to optimum temperature, I see a leak coming from the back of the motor, and I looked under the intake, and I see some rust and some water from that leak.

Hi,

I suspect you have the 4.6L V8. There is a coolant cross-over on the rear of the engine that can be leaking.

If you look at pic 1 below, I highlighted the cross-over and circled all the places that could leak. Check those areas first.

If you find it needs to be removed to fix the leak, pics 2 and 3 provide the directions. You will also need to remove the intake manifold.

Let me know what you find or if you have questions.

Take care,

Joe

See pics below. Note: If you have a 5.4L, let me know.

So, most videos show the two hose change, which is easy unclip and remove the bolt. What about the steep one on bottom how is that changed?

Hi,

I attached a pic below. Is that the one you are referring to, the heater supply hose? If it is, that is a quick connection. Gently push in on the connector and remove the push pin I circled. Then, pull it off.

Be careful removing it because there is a rubber O-ring in the connector. If it gets damaged, it will leak.

Let me know if this helps.

Joe

Yes, this is one of them, they are usually sold in pair. It is the other one I am talking about, all metal under the intake and is lower in placement.

If I understand, you need to know how the steel end connects? Is that correct? If so, on the opposite end, there will be a similar quick connector. It works the same as the first one I mentioned.

Let me know if that is what you are referring to.

Hi,

Could you take a pic of the hose you are indicating and upload it? I'm not sure what you are referring to. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by ling on.

Let me know.

Hi,

One is a heater return and the other is the heater supply hose. It goes from the heater core under the intake and to the back of the water pump.

Yes, that is it. Is there an o ring where it attaches behind the water pump? Couldn't find anyone replacing it and how to remove it.

Hi,

On one end will be a quick connection. On the opposite side, there is an o-ring. That portion is at the rear of the water pump. Before you install the new o-ring, make sure to lubricate it with coolant. That hose will then be bolted into place.

Take care and let me know if you have other questions.

Hi,

Yep, there are two. If you look at the pic below, I attached a pic and the part number. The part number, W704593-S100, is a Ford part number. I'm sure you can find one that works the same in a different brand and for less money.

I hope this helps.

Take care,

Joe

See pic below. Note: I just picked the first Ford dealership that came up to show you. Neither 2CarPros nor I have anything to do with them. In other words, I'm not trying to make money. LOL

Hi,

That appears to be the receiver of the hose you are replacing. Do you recall seeing it when you removed the old hose?

You mean the receiver from behind the water pump? If so, only partially cause the bigger part is still behind the water pump and in front of the block.

If possible, could you take a pic of what you are seeing and upload it for me to see? It would help me. Also, the pic you provided will be on the opposite side of the replacement tube.

Let me know.
