I am in the process of replacing my water pump. I decided to replace belts and hoses too. I am pretty sure I have replaced the heater hoses the same way as they were. I looked at diagrams and pictures on line and they look different. On my Jeep the hose from the intake manifold is connected to the water pump. My upper heater hose connects to the thermostat cover. Pictures on the internet seem to show the intake manifold hose connected to the thermostat cover and the upper heater hose connected to the water pump. Should I change the hookups, or will the way the hoses have been connect for at least twenty years be okay?

We do not have pictures of heater hoses so if you get heat when you need it leave it alone and replace it the way they are.

My heater output has always been weak. I back flushed the heater, but will not be able to try it out until I get it back together. Also, I changed the 160 degree thermostat to a 195 degree thermostat. Joe Bob 45

Well having a 160 thermostat is probably why you had weak heat. Normally heater hoses are different sizes so they only will go on one way.

Thanks HMAC300. I did have hard time getting the hose from the intake manifold to fit over the water pump. My old water pump seemed to have a smaller fitting. The top hose from the heater is a larger diameter, so maybe it should go to the water pump and the intake manifold hose should attach to the thermostat cover. What do you think? Can I damage anything if the hoses are hooked up incorrectly? Joe Bob 45
