How to know if the camshaft is on the compression stroke?

Replacing a timing belt. How do I know if I'm on the compression stroke on the camshaft?

If the timing mark on the camshaft gear is on the mark you are on the compression stroke, check out the red arrow. Check out the images (below). Let us know if you need anything else.
