I just bought a 1997 Saturn 4dr SDN 1.9 liter. The car was sitting for a couple years. When I started it up, it shook real bad, and when you first pull off, it acts like it has no power until it gets going, then it is ok. It does not shut off during idle. The code reads a misfire. I checked the plugs in which they look to be a burnt build up on the tips. I bought new plugs and wires. However, I have no way of making sure that the wires are currently in the right order from the coil to the plug. I am going to change them one at a time putting the wires back in it's current position. How can I be sure that they are in the right position without a photo, and will changing the plugs and wires resolve the problem?

There is a emissions sticker above the radiator that shows the correct order on the coils. Also closest to the belt is the numberone cylinder then going towards the drivers side of the car it goes 2 3 4 cylinders. Also is the gas in the car 2yrs old as well? Also what kind of spark plugs did you buy copper platinum etc?

I bought copper plugs. I think that it is the battery. Since replacing plugs and wires, the car runs much better. I noticed that the battery will not keep a charge. When I jump it with my other vehicle and keep them both running with the cables connected, I don't hear it misfiring. When I remove the cables, there is a slight misfire. The battery is definitely dead. Could that be the problem? That what it seems. What do you think?

Sounds like the alternator isn't charging. Do you have a multi meter to do some testing.

Yes! What do I need to do. I know that the battery was sitting for a couple years, and it was just about dry. I literally put two and a half bottles of water in the battery.

Merry Christmas. I went out to changed the oil. What I thought was, and looked like the oil filter turned out to be a transmission filter. Needless to say, I poured out all of my transmission fluid on the ground. Where the heck is the oil filter? I can not find it anywhere! I also checked the voltage while the car was running. The battery is shot, and I got 13 volts while the car was running. Don't know idf that is good or not, and I don't see the battery indicator coming on.

The battery is shot with a new battery the voltage couldr use from the alternator. Even if the light isn't on doesn't mean it isn't bad. But sounds like its charging recheck the voltage after the battery replace. The oil filter is above the right axle.

That what I though at first. However, it is the transmission filter above the right axle, if you are standing in front of the car. I think I spotted the oil filter in the back lower left side, sorta, (passenger side) of the car. I am running the car a little with the oil I did put in, to clean I a litthe, then I am going to change it again in a couple days or so. Does that sound okay?

The new oil you put in is getting dirty from the old filter. Also the passenger side is the right side of the car. If your in the drivers seat the passenger side would be the right side. It's always sitting in the drivers seat that tells you what side of the car is which.
