Clunk

Today I started up may car. Put the clutch in then put it into first then it made a clunk and the car shut off. Then I started it back up and there was no problem. Any ideas?My car is a 2.2 5 speed. 160000 km. If it was my clutch would the car clunk and shut off like that?

If it goes backwards ok, then I doubt engine issue.

It sounds like a trans issue. You need someone to check this to confirm.

Have you tried starting in second gear?

If my clutch was going would it make my car clunk like that or do I have some type of gear box issue?
