Hi there. I have the vehicle listed above Wolfsburg Edition TSI 1.8. My car's A/C and heater were working fine until this winter when I decided to use the heater. While the heater was on, I drove over a deep pothole on the road. I hit it pretty hard, but all seemed okay and I continued on my way.
The next day I broke a sweat after washing my vehicle and decided I wanted to use the air conditioning. After turning the temp knob to the cold position and pressing the A/C button on, I noticed the air did not get cold at all and no matter which way I turn the temp knob the air temp is all the same, HOT! Even when the system is off, I can still feel heat coming from the vents.
A new ac compressor was installed about 2 years ago and the car was not driven much after doing so. I verified that the compressor is working and the A/C system was charged and working fine before I hit the pothole.
Could it be possible that the blend door is stuck in the heat position? How would I check to find out if it's a stuck door or if I need a new blend door actuator? Also, I read about recalibrating the HVAC system to make it work. Is that something I could do on my make and model? I have three knobs to control my HVAC system, Temperature Knob, Air Pressure, and Direction of air flow through the vents.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi,

When you turn the A/C on, do you notice if the A/C compressor is actuating? If it is, then my first suspect would be a blend air door issue, especially if the air is always hot.

If the compressor does turn on, then the blend door is the first suspect. If you look below, I attached the directions for the removal and replacement of the actuator. Before purchasing one, remove the old one and see if it responds when you change the temp.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

joe

Hello. Thank you for your rapid response to my HVAC issue. It turns out that it was in fact a stuck blend door. I followed your advice by removing the panel by the footwell of the driver's side. Once I was able to see the actuator and arm that was connected to the blend door, I used a metal rod I had to move the arm slightly. Then I started the car and A/C on, and it instantly started blowing cold air. So yes, it was just as I thought, a stuck blend door. I just saved myself $380, from an estimate I got last week from a mechanic shop. Thank you for all your advice. I hope someone else can benefit from my experience.

Hi,

Thank you for the update. Since it was always hot, that is what I thought was causing the issue.

Regardless, I'm glad to know it's fixed. And I know your reply will help others in the future.

Take care of yourself and feel free to come back anytime in the future.

Joe
