I took my van to the dealership yesterday. It was leaking oil of some kind. My husband said it wasn't transmission fluid. It was making this high pitched whine when it was cold.
The service advisor told me he thought it was the rack & pinon. He said that these 2006's are coming in right and left with this problem. He also told me they are having trouble getting the part in to fix it. He said one person waited over a month for the part. If they know this is a problem, then why aren't they getting these parts quicker!
Now the dealer is telling me that it's ok to drive my car. That I just need to check the fluid levels frequently. I just want some unbiased opinion. If someone came into you shop with this problem would you tell them that they could drive this vehicle until the part came in to fix it.
Keep in mind I have two young boys that are with me in the van everyday! Thank you for your advice.

HArd to say why the demand isn't being met. The world is different today than it was 10 years ago. The globalization of industries are bring in new problems and this may be one.

Chrysler is in finanical trouble, I would think they are more concerned with sales than warranty issues.

It sounds as though it is a fluid leak that is happening and appearantly they are aware of the severity. If it is slow enough and not getting onto anything else that could cause more damage, then keep an eye on it and use the right fluid. Since your under warranty, hopefully the dealer gave you some.

I would shoot straight and try best advise a customer as to the possible problems that could occur.
