After filling up our almost empty gas tank, our van stalled out when leaving the gas station. It started right up and seemed fine. We've noticed that since that day when you hit about 50 mph the engine sounds loud. It is fine from 0-49 mph and quiets down again at about 65-70mph. When we filled the tank with gas that day, we drove for 3 hours and the gas gauge didn't move an inch. Then when we started it later that day it was down to 3/4 tank. We filled the tank again this past week and the guage is all the way to full and still is after several days of driving. Is the gas and loud noise connected and what is it?

Hi:

I really don't understand how the two are related. It may just be a coincidence, but stranger things have happened. What does the loud noise sound like at 50 MPH? Also, it is possible that the float for the fuel gauge may be going bad. It is part of the fuel pump and problems with it are common.
