Check Engine light on. P0440 & P0440 pending code only. Found loose gas cap. Tightened cap then reset code.
Light on again the next day (gas level was about 1/4). Filled tank, cleaned gas cap seal, tighened cap, reset code. Light on when tank level was slightly less than 1/2 full (3/8).
New OEM cap, filled tank, reset code. Light on again at 3/8 tank level. Inspected hoses, purge valve for loose connections and cracks.

Filled tank again. No pending code after @50 miles. After 144 miles (gauge @3/4), P0440 pd set.

A po440 = Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction. That is a generic code that opens up many possible problems. However, based on your description, I feel you have a small leak in the EVAP. What I recommend is this. Take the car to a shop and have them fog the system. WHat they will do is actually place fog in the EVAP system. If there is a leak, the fog will escape and you then can find the leak. Leaks are very hard to find without this process.
