While driving, we heard a squeeling noise. I turned off the AC, and the noise quit. When I tried the AC again, it was not cooling. The next day when I started the van, I heard a loud grinding sound that stopped after I reached about 15 MPH. The van continues to run fine, but sounds awful until I start diving. I'm assuming my compressor is out. Will it hurt if I put off replacing for a couple of months?

It will. What going to happen is that when (and it will) the A/C clutch fails, it will stop spinning and within an hour (if you are lucky) the belt will get too hot and disintegrated and you will be stuck with and battery-powered, overheating engine.

And based on the pulley location, you can't bypass the A/C clutch pulley either. You might, take a closer look at the physical location of the A/C pulley. You may get lucky and be able to bypass it.
