The battery failed today and was jump started by the AAA Service truck. I now see that the speedometer and tachometer do not work, hands remain at zero on the dials. Any idea what the problem is? Could it be caused by the jump starting? Service man checked the battery and claims it is good. Any advice greatly appreciated.

One is run by the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) and the other from the crank sensor, but both run through the computer before making it to their final destination, the gauges. Try disconnecting the battery for at least 10 minutes to see if that will reset it. If it doesn't there could be a problem with the PCM. Also, check to make sure the battey terminals are clean and tight, and the ground to the engine block is clean and tight too.

Let me know what you find.
