Occasionally the van just won't start. There are lights on the dashboard but not all of them are normal. For instance the mileage may be a funky mix of letters/numbers. Battery is goos, wires, good, all known electrical parts like wires, etc are good. No blown fuses. However, there has been gradual quirkiness with all things powered by the computer. Sometimes the mirrors move by themselves. Sometimes the overhead temp indicator goes blank. Door locks open and close by their own.
But back to the starting problem. If we tap on the aluminum looking module on the drivers side near the fender inside the engine compartment it starts and will be normal for a long time. Cold, damp weather seems to make it worse. One time tapping that module didn't work so I tapped the module on the fender on the passenger side inside the engine compartment and then it started!
Is it a problem with the one of the modules. Is it just moisture getting into the large cable connectors? Wht would tapping the module make it work. Loose wires. Why would tapping the other module work. They both can't be bad can they? If you don't know which modules I am talking about I can takes pictures.

Hello -

To better assist you please let me know if your model is a 2WD or a FWD. Also is it a LX, LXI or SX. Last, the engine size in liter and the 8th digit of your VIN.

Yes it would help if you provide pics.

Next, please go to Auto Zone (AZ) or O'Reilly's (OR) and for FREE they can pull the codes to the car. Most important: Once they check your codes, if they find something and you don't get it fixed and need to get back with us, please make sure you tell us exactly what the code was, number and all. Example, if the code was E0568 O2 Sensor bad. Then make sure you give us all of that. While there for FREE also they can bring their tester out and check your battery and alternator.

Please try this also: Slowly turn ignition switch from ACC to ON, does the dash lights flickers or goes off? (YES?) Slowly turn to START, does the light flickers or goes off? ( YES ) When cranking the starter, is the battery charge light ON all the time? ( NO ) If answers are as in the brackets, the ignition switch is possible bad. Please let me know what happens though.
