It sounds like the engine lifters are knocking. Could you tell me what might be casuing this and if it will result in catastrophic failure?

Hello,

Hearing a little bit of lifter noise should not be of any major concern.
However if the nose is excessive it can lead to catastrophic failure of engine components.

Keep in mind that noisy lifter can be a cause of not having enough oil in the engine. Or if the oil pump is not producing enough pressure to keep them lubricated.
Check the oil pressure and make sure that is sufficient. Oil pressure can be tested using oil pressure test gauge. Which can be borrowed from your local auto parts store.

Your vehicle should have 5 PSI of oil pressure at idle and 30-80 PSI at 3,000 RPMs.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
