I can ride on the highway all day with my AC off & my temperature stays normal, but if I'm driving in the city I must turn on my AC in order to keep the temperature level normal. I recently had the thermostat changed. Also my positive battery cable seems to be burning out far too frequently I've changed it at least twice in the last year. I'm not sure if the 2 are connected. I would be so grateful if anyone could help me out.
Thx in advance.
just made a 5.00 dollar donation (mof@bellsouth. Net)

Hi acepro95,

Thank you for the donation. I can't gaurentee a solution, but you will get an effort. Something as silly as a small donation can make a world of difference only because it shows a true appreciation for our efforts. I assure you that moderators aren't here to help for a financial gain. Again, Thank-you :D

I need to know what the climate of your area is and your driving pattern. Ie. How much stop and go driving and the ambient temperature of the area. There is a possiblility of a intermittant seizing compressor that may explain both problems depending on your answer.

Acepro, open the hood with the a/c on to see which fan is runnig( there should be two). The other is the cooling fan. Shut the car off and manually spin the fan to see if the bearings are going bad. Ive replaced a bunch of the cooling fan motors in those cars. The aftermarket makes them but I never had much luck with them lasting so I reccomend you go to the dealer for the fan motor if that is the problem.

I live in South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale). Lol so I experience one season all year & that's summer. Typical around town driving scenario is generaly less then 20 miles, rarely in rush hour traffic 90% i'm on the road betwenn 5-7 a.M. & 10a.M.-4p.M. When I take my kids to school at 6:00 it's a 15 mile trip if I a have to sit at more than 5 stop lights, I have to turn the AC on at the 6th one. Average tempararure at that time of the day is about 75 degres.

There is a tsb that may be worth looking into, REf#24-15-98. It may or may not apply. Jack's reply sounds more feasible and logical. I don't know what the deal is with the positve battery.

Do this start the vehicle while hood open-look at the radiator fan while engine is idling. Is the fan cycling on and off? When you turn the AC On the AC fan should come ON.

And again can be the Fan, Compressor, Temp switch or a Sensor out of calibration or its wiring/relay.
