Engine is over heating - according to temp gauge and warning light, but no heat is coming out thru vents. When you stop it quickly returns to normal temps. I suspect Thermostat, and if so can this be changed simply in my own garage - or is the thermostat hard to get to

Pretty simple repair on the 2.0L / 2.4L engines. If its the 2.7L it is more work though. You have to raise vehicle and remove the right front wheel and belt splash shield. Then you have to remove the drive belts and lower the alternator. Disconnect the A/C clutch and pressure sensor connectors. Remove oil dipstick and tube. Now you have access to thermostat housing and thermostat.

I had to remove the Alternator. (Big hands) The bolts on the housing (3) are a bear. Be careful not to damage the thermostat gasket when pulling the body off. Save a couple $$. The top and side weren't too bad. The bottom was a total feel and drop 20+ evolution going in. I did not disconnect the 2 lower hoses to save time/frustration.
