Transmission problem
1998 Chrysler Sebring 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 140000 miles

I replaced the ECM. Now the car is stuck in "overdrive" and will not shift into 4th gear so I can't drive over 35mph. I've replaced the engine speed sensor without any change. Also the SRS dash indicator is on. This model has an "overdrive" button on the shifter. When the overdrive is engaged, the car stays in third. Normal driving is with the overdrive not engaged. The button on the shifter does not work now, thus the car is "stuck" in OD. Also the OD dash indicator light is not on. I had the computer checked and it is functioning as it should be. I was told one of the wires from the ECM or TCM bundle could be not working, but there are hundreds in the bundle and how do I know which wire it would be. Is this a reasonable explanation? Could it be a wire in the wire bundle or something else? I need help.

It was from Salvage. I don't know about "programming". The mechanic hooked up a small computer under the steering wheel and made the transmission shift using the computer and said everything checked out OK. That's when he told me it was probably a wire gone bad. I sure appreciate your help

The numbers matched, but the letter at the end was different. Mine ended in an "A" and the salvage one ended in an "H". Where can I get it reprogrammed and how do they do it. It doesn't seem likely that the little laptop thing they connected under the sterring column would be able to do it, but I don't really know. Thanks Also remember it shilfts fine through the gears, it's just the "overdrive" problem. Thanks again

Would call chrysler parts see if PCMs are a match if PCM Transaxle shift quality quick learn proceedure was done vehicle would have been running Scan tool hooked to Data link. Trans would have been shifted up through at prompting of sacn tool until it reaches overdrive. Is this what happened when they hooked up laptop?

I heard the trans being prompted through 3rd, but that was already working. I do not think it was prompted to overdrive because the mechanic told me "everything works except the overdrive", which was working prior to the new PCM being placed. Thanks If this is a computer problem, who can I take it to reprogram it? Can it be done with the scan tool? Can it be done at the local chrysler dealership? I need help bad. Thanks
