The fuel gauge on my wife's car stays at 1/4. When the fuel gets too low the gas light comes on but the gauge never moves. How do i repair this?

Hi:
Here is what to do. With an OBD II scanner, the gauges can be tested to see if they work. Try that. If it works, chances are the float in the fuel tank is bad. It is a Rheostat switch and they do go bad. The bad part is the tank needs removed and it is part of the fuel pump, so it's not cheap. That is why I recommend having the gauge tested.
